Go North East strike action

Updated 16th November 2023

There are currently only a small number of Go North East bus services due to strike action which could continue for up to 12 weeks from Saturday 28 October - for information on the skeleton service running click here.

We understand that this will impact some of our learners who’ll need to find alternative ways to get to college such as walking, cycling, using the Metro, an alternative bus service or getting a lift.

It’s really important that learners attend college in person and we have support in place for anyone struggling to do so.

Please note: The Go North East App ticket was initially being accepted on the Metro and other bus services but this was for a temporary period and anyone trying to use a ticket may be refused travel.

Free college bus service

From Monday 6 November we are running two daily free bus services for Gateshead College learners and staff, both services go to Gateshead Interchange to get to our Baltic Campus and Academy for Sport and our Skills Academy for Construction which is across the road from the Skills Academy for Automotive & Engineering. Look out for a white bus from Stanley Coaches.

Important: This service will not run if the Go North East strike is called off.  Please check for updates on the Go North East website and this webpage.

Any absence must be reported in the usual way, information on our absence reporting can be found here.

We understand the buses may not work for every timetable, but we know they will support lots of learners who may otherwise not have an alternative bus service.

If you need to add some study time to your day while you wait for your return bus, speak with your teacher who will make sure you have work to complete.

Unfortunately, we’re unable to provide a bus service which would meet everyone’s needs.
