Skills Academy - Construction
This qualification comprises of knowledge and performance units which between them cover:
The course is continuously assessed by both practical and written assignments and tests.
Home Study Students are expected to carry out some self-study, typically six hours per week, and are expected to complete any work that has not been completed during lesson times.
There is an element of work experience within this qualification.
The expectation is that you will fulfil a work placement if suitable.
You can progress to higher education on successful completion.
Additional costs may be required for the industry specific text books.
Details will be given at interview.
You are required to purchase safety boots to be worn during workshop based lessons.

Getting the Employment Edge - If you’re looking to work in construction you need to have a minimum level of health, safety and environmental awareness before going on site.
Gateshead College will help you become job ready.
We’ll also help you apply for a Construction Skills Certification (CSCS) Card, which is a requirement for all workers and trainees no matter your job role.
On many construction sites you won’t be able to enter unless you have passed the HS&E and/or have a valid CSCS card.
You will need level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations.
Four GCSE passes at grade 4 or above, preferably including Maths and English, or a vocational qualification at pass or above, and Functional Skills Maths and English at Level 2.
Ideally you have completed a Level 2 electrical course or have undertaken a technical subject at school.
Use of basic tools and some hand skills would be useful.
You will gain a Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) Qualification.
This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances.
