An apprenticeship is a real job with training. The apprentice will be part of your staff team like any other employee and will learn job specific skills whilst they work.

No. Any size or type of business can benefit from apprentices.

They boost the skills in your workforce which can help improve productivity, generate new ideas, support change and ensure you are more competitive.

No. Apprenticeships are now available in around 1500 occupations across 170 industries and are no longer confined to traditional trades.

No. Anyone over the age of 16 can do an apprenticeship, subject to eligibility. We can advise you on the different terms and conditions.

Each apprenticeship is different and can last from 12 months to four years. We can advise on the duration of the apprenticeship.

Most of the training is on the job where the apprentice will work with a mentor from your team to learn the specific job skills. Off the job training can be delivered in your workplace or at one of our academies. This could be one day a week or on a ‘block release’ basis where your apprentice would be trained in week or more blocks.

We will work closely with you to help you select the apprenticeship and level most appropriate to your skills needs. We can also advise on how we can adapt an apprenticeship to ensure it is tailor-made just for you.  

Each apprentice is assigned a dedicated college assessor who will be your primary point of contact and who will regularly update you of their progress. They will complete pre-arranged on-site visits, send termly reports and track progress via our e-portal which you can view at any time.

As the employer, your responsibilities include giving an induction to any new apprentices, providing on the job training, paying their wages and issuing a contract of employment.

This varies from employer to employer, but as a minimum you must pay apprentices aged 16-18 or in the first year of their apprenticeship at least £3.50 an hour. All other apprentices are entitled to the National Minimum Wage for their age.

Yes. From May 2017 employers training a 16-18 year old will receive £1000 or a 19-24 year old who has previously been in care or who has a Local Authority Education, Health and Care Plan.

If you have less than 50 people working for you, you will be able to train 16-18 year old apprentices without making a contribution to the costs of training.

You’re not required to pay National Insurance contributions for apprentices under the age of 25 on earnings below the higher tax rate of £827 a week.
