Student events boost local charity

Our business students organised a series events over fundraising fortnight to raise money to help feed local people in need.

The Level 3 Business students needed to plan and host an event as part of their programme and decided to use the opportunity to fundraise for Gateshead Foodbank, Gateshead College’s chosen charity partner.

In total they held nine events ranging from a Christmas movie night in our theatre to a sweet stall and a charity football tournament. Together the three classes of students raised a staggering £687 for the foodbank.

Olivia Weatherburn, 16, was part of the group which organised a bake sale and is now keen to work with the college’s Charity Champions to organise another event.

She said: “It was a really great learning experience as you don’t realise how much work goes into planning and hosting an event until you’ve tried to do it. I really enjoyed the experience and I’m so happy that we’ve managed to raise such a great amount for the foodbank.”
