Construction students from across the North East gathered for the annual Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Student Challenge, which we hosted for the second year running.
Students joined us from Middlesbrough College and Hartlepool College to took part in a series of tasks designed to test their problem‑solving, leadership and innovation skills. Working in groups of five or six, teams were challenged to develop solutions to a complex construction project featuring significant obstacles and real‑world pressures.
Judging panels assessed each team’s approach throughout the day, with prizes awarded for innovation, leadership and best overall solution. With a group of our students taking home the prize for innovation.
Kevin Elliott, curriculum leader for construction, said “This event is of immense value for students aged 16 to 19. It gives them the chance to network, see what students from other colleges are doing and benchmark themselves against their peers.
“It’s very well attended by industry professionals, who are often willing to talk to students about career paths, professional memberships and opportunities they might not otherwise be aware of.”
Well done to everyone who took part, we are already looking forward to next year.
