Green Gateshead is our promise to take action for people and planet.
For us sustainability is about more than the environment and we are committed to working to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These global goals aim to achieve a better, fairer and more sustainable future for everyone.
We’re leading by example – working hard to educate ourselves, to reduce our impact on the environment, promote positive action throughout our college and give our learners the skills they need to thrive in a green economy and to make their communities better.
Our Sustainability Strategy takes account of feedback from our learners, staff and partners and reflects our commitment to integrating sustainability into all aspects of college life, from governance and operations to teaching and community engagement with the ambition of achieving Net Zero by 2050.
Our goal is:
To be a resilient organisation which takes positive action to address climate change creating a better environment for our learners, our people and future generations.
We’ll do this by:
We’re preparing our learners for a world impacted by climate change providing them with skills, knowledge and experiences so that they can actively engage in addressing and promoting sustainability and social equity and secure jobs in the green economy.
We’re supporting and empowering our people to take positive action to address climate change, creating a better environment for our learners, our people and our wider community.
Through our buildings and outdoor spaces we’ll promote sustainability – reducing waste, improving efficiency and minimising our impact on the environment. And we’ll work with suppliers who share our sustainable values.
As a good neighbour and a positive role model, we’ll be a driver of climate action in Gateshead and across the North East taking every opportunity to bring our local community together with us on this journey, ensuring that no one gets left behind.
