Sports students visit Miami in a trip to remember

April 10, 2025

A group of our sport students have just returned from an incredible two-week trip to Miami.

As part of their visit, organised by the Association of Colleges, the 14 students got a taste of life at Miami Dade College. During their time on campus they had a tour of the facilities, undertook training sessions and had the chance to attend lectures on nutrition, sports injuries, coaching, and overcoming self-doubt as well as finding out more about career opportunities in the USA.

Ben, who studies Sport and Exercise with us said: “Ahead of the trip I was very intrigued to discover how college life was for Americans, and to see what sporting opportunities were available in the States, or more specifically, Miami Dade College. The trip lived up to my expectations and has given me a whole new perspective of what I am able to do in the future, after I finish my college course.

“As a footballer, I really enjoyed being able to have a training session with the football (soccer) coach from Miami Dade College. We also learned how to play pickleball, where we had a very close game against some students, narrowly losing 5-0.

“I am very grateful to our teachers for looking after us and for providing a trip which I loved and will definitely never forget!”

Our students also experienced American culture, cheering on Miami Heat at a basketball game and taking in a thrilling Marlins baseball matchup. They also got out and about enjoying everything that Miami has to offer including an open-top bus tour and visits to the Everglades and Miami South Beach.

Kristiana who also studies Sport and Exercise with us said: “I really enjoyed my time on this trip and made memories that will last a lifetime”

“I enjoyed visiting the Turtle hospital at Florida Keys which had amazing views, and the turtles were so cute. Exploring the Everglades and spotting alligators was another unforgettable experience and we also got to enjoy the sunshine on Miami South Beach.”

“I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to go on this once in a lifetime trip, which I will never forget. It opened my eyes to opportunities and careers in the sports industry in both the UK and the U.S. and helped me shape my plans for the future after university.”
