Recently a group of dance students embarked on a trip of a lifetime to New York to immerse themselves into the world of performing on Broadway, one of those students Mollie has put together her highlights of the trip.
Hi I’m Mollie, a dance student studying at Gateshead College and I have just returned from the amazing two week trip to New York City.
I’d like to work in this industry, so having the opportunity to go to New York to experience life on Broadway was a once in a lifetime experience for me and something I’ll always remember.
As a Dance student I was unbelievably grateful to be chosen to go on this trip and have the opportunity to see and experience two amazing Broadway shows ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Chicago’, which were so inspiring.
As part of our two-week trip, we walked miles and miles across the big apple plus we took the subway to places like The Statue of Liberty, Gantry Park, and The Summit.
The subway was a quick way of getting around New York and was very easy to navigate – it was just like getting the Metro back at home.
My highlights of the trip were seeing the Empire State Building and the Chrysler building lit up at night, which was a surreal experience as you only ever see them in films and the other highlight was obviously seeing the Broadway shows.
Work experience opportunities were another fab part of the trip, I was able to take part in workshops at the Valerie Green/Dance Entropy dance company including ‘Skimming the surface’ which focused on expressive movement to help uncover emotions and new ways of thinking.
We also spent the day volunteering at FABSCRAP, a charity in New York that works with the fashion, interior design, and entertainment industries to recycle and reuse fabric waste.
New York was an absolutely amazing trip, and I am so unbelievably grateful for the opportunity. It’s something I will never forget.
Thank you!
Mollie
