July 27, 2026

Students from our T level health and science courses were given a unique behind-the-scenes insight into the future of cancer research during a visit to Newcastle Hospitals Charity’s Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Research Trials Centre.

The visit provided students with the opportunity to meet the researchers and healthcare professionals working at the forefront of cancer research, gaining a greater understanding of how clinical trials and pioneering treatments are helping to improve outcomes for patients across the region and beyond.

As part of the experience, students also learned about the new Sir Bobby Robson Institute and the role it will play in advancing cancer research in the North East, supporting groundbreaking work to develop new treatments and improve patient care.

The visit follows fundraising efforts by the students in support of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, helping to raise vital funds that contribute to cancer research and innovation. Newcastle Hospitals Charity thanked the college for its support and commitment to helping tackle cancer.

Experiences like this help students connect classroom learning with real-world careers, offering valuable insight into the opportunities available within healthcare, medical science and research.
