Installation, Commissioning & Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pump Systems


This course is for plumbing, heating, building services and property maintenance professionals looking to develop their skills in low-carbon heating technologies. It is also ideal for employers planning retrofit projects, housing upgrades, decarbonisation initiatives and renewable heating installations.

This 2-day course provides the knowledge and understanding required to install, commission and maintain air-source heat pump systems safely and efficiently.

Course content includes:

  • Air source heat pump principles, system components, site considerations and preparatory work.
  • Installation requirements, hydraulic emitter circuits, non-refrigerant circuit considerations and safe working practices.
  • Testing, commissioning, routine servicing, fault awareness and maintenance.
  • How heat pumps contribute to domestic decarbonisation and energy efficiency.

By the end of this course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to:

  • Support installation, commissioning and maintenance of air source heat pump systems within qualification scope.
  • Develop a practical route from traditional heating/plumbing into renewable heating technologies.
  • Help employers respond to demand for low-carbon heating and retrofit activity.
  • Progress into further renewables, retrofit, building services or specialist heat pump training.

Assessment
Assessment includes practical and theory exams and you’ll get a certificate issued on successful completion.

You must have a NVQ 2 in plumbing, WRAS and UDHW qualification.

  • Course Fee: £500 + VAT per person
  • Includes training, assessment, and certification
  • Self-employed candidates or companies with fewer than 250 employees may qualify for funding to get this course for free
  • Booking requires a refundable £100 deposit

Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances.

If you don’t qualify for funding help and have to pay for course, you could pay a 25% deposit and four consecutive monthly standing order payments for the balance. The course fee must be over £100 to qualify.
