Design & Installation of Domestic & Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging


Whether you’re a qualified electrician, electrical installer or experienced electrical worker, this course will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to enter the rapidly growing EV charging installation industry. It’s also perfect for professionals in construction, facilities management, housing, property maintenance and low-carbon transport infrastructure who are looking to upskill and support the transition to sustainable transport.

This 2-day EV course covers the specific and supplementary requirements related to the design, installation and maintenance of electric vehicle (EV) supply equipment and associated circuits in domestic and small commercial settings.

Course content includes:

  • EV charging infrastructure and the role of domestic and small commercial charging in the low-carbon transition.
  • Design requirements, site assessment, electrical supply considerations, earthing/protection, circuit requirements and safe installation principles.
  • Relevant standards, regulations, inspection, testing, commissioning and customer handover considerations.
  • Practical application to domestic and small commercial settings.

By the end of this course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to:

  • Understand how to design and install EV charging points safely and in line with current requirements.
  • Support employers responding to rising demand for charging infrastructure.
  • Add an important green transport skill to an existing electrical skillset.
  • Progress into wider renewable, electrical, property maintenance or infrastructure roles.

  • Installation Electrician
  • Maintenance Electrician
  • Domestic Electrician

Or

Any of the following qualifications, plus the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification if your qualification was achieved more than 5 years ago:

  • C&G 5393 Electrotechnical in Dwellings
  • C&G 5357 Level 3 Electrotechnical (installation or maintenance)
  • C&G 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (buildings, structures, and the environment)
  • C&G 2346 Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification
  • C&G 2347 Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification
  • Course cost: £500 + VAT per person
  • Includes training, assessment and certification
  • Self-employed candidates or companies with fewer than 250 employees may qualify for funding to get this course for free
  • Booking requires a refundable £100 deposit

Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances.

If you don’t qualify for funding help and have to pay for course, you could pay a 25% deposit and four consecutive monthly standing order payments for the balance. The course fee must be over £100 to qualify.
