This course is designed for those who want to develop practical, career-focused skills in business support, HR, marketing, community engagement, administration, sustainability, charity/social enterprise or public-sector support roles. Also useful for employed staff supporting social value, community benefit, supplier engagement or ESG activity.

Course content includes:

  • What CSR means in practice, including social value, ethical business, community impact and environmental responsibility
  • How businesses evidence responsible practice through policies, projects, stakeholder engagement and reporting
  • Links between CSR, sustainability, procurement, reputation, workforce engagement and customer expectations
  • Progression planning, employability skills and personal development evidence

By the end of this course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to:

  • Understand how responsible business practice contributes to value, reputation and compliance
  • Support basic CSR/social value activity, communications, reporting or community projects
  • Build evidence of employability and transferable skills for business, community, HR or sustainability roles
  • Progress to further business, management, sustainability or apprenticeship routes

Assessment

Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence, which can be completed either in paper-based or digital format, depending on your needs and preferences.

Our sessions are delivered in college, providing a structured and supportive learning environment.

You’ll also use Microsoft Teams as a digital platform for meetings, check-ins and completing work, helping you develop effective communication and collaboration skills in a professional
setting.

You’ll need access to a computer or laptop with wifi to access course materials and complete assessments. Any additional resources will be provided by the tutor.

Whatever support you need, we’re here for you and will make sure you get the most out of your time at college.

Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances.

If you don’t qualify for funding help and have to pay for course, you could pay a 25% deposit and four consecutive monthly standing order payments for the balance. The course fee must be over £100 to qualify.

Those aged under 18 years old are not eligible to study this course as it is a part time programme.

There are no formal entry requirements for these courses.

They are designed to be accessible to adults interested in developing green skills, sustainability knowledge and project delivery capabilities.

November

  • Start date: 16th November 2026, one day per week for 5 weeks

January

  • Start date 13th January 2027

You can progress onto other Green Skills courses within the curriculum.

If you’re currently in employment you may be able to progress into sustainability-focused roles or responsibilities within your workplace.

You may also consider progression onto our Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner (CRSP) apprenticeship or further study in sustainability, environmental management and project management.

Knowledge

Economics and Accounting: Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.

Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.

Administration and Management: Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modelling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

Clerical: Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.

Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
