Two travel and tourism students have landed prestigious apprenticeships with the UK’s largest independent travel agency.

Lauren Donald and Megan Foster are now employed as apprentices at Hays Travel after being selected out of more than 100 applicants.

Both girls studied on the Level 2 Travel and Tourism Diploma at Gateshead College before moving on to get their Level 3 Introductory Certificate in Travel and Tourism.

Lauren, 18, is now completing her training while working at the Washington branch while Megan, also 18, is based at the Gateshead store.

Megan said: “I’m absolutely loving working at Hays and continuing my training as an apprentice.

“My time at college really helped me to get my apprenticeship, it gave me the knowledge and skills I needed and I really enjoyed every part of my course.

“The best part of my job is definitely meeting all of the customers and I have definitely made some lifelong friends already. Overall the first 4 months have been absolutely amazing and I can't wait to see what happens in the next couple of months.”

Helen Simpson, curriculum leader for travel and tourism, said: “Lauren and Megan have done amazingly well and we are so proud of them.

“We know they’ll be fabulous in their apprenticeship and will have a very long and successful career in the travel industry.”
