Suicide Support

If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, please get in touch, help is available right now.

Support in college

You can speak to your teacher who can contact the Wellbeing Team for you or you can contact them yourself.

On campus – go to reception at your campus and ask to speak to the Safeguarding or Wellbeing

Outside college

You’re not alone. If you ever feel unsafe or at immediate risk, please call 999 or go to your nearest Accident and Emergency. Your safety is the priority.

If you need non urgent support outside of college hours (Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5pm) the organisation below can help.

  • NHS Mental Health Crisis Team: Call 111 (option 2) for urgent mental health support, or dial 999 in an emergency.
  • Samaritans: Free, confidential support 24/7. Call 116 123, email [email protected], or visit the local branch at 15 Portland Terrace, Newcastle.
  • SHOUT: Text SHOUT to 85258 for free, confidential text support any time.
  • CALM: Support for men feeling suicidal. Call 0800 58 58 58 (5 pm–midnight) or use web chat.
  • PAPYRUS HOPELINE247: For under-35s or anyone worried about a young person. Call 0800 068 4141, text 88247, or email [email protected]
  • James’ Place (Newcastle): Face-to-face therapy for men in crisis. Call 0191 046 6000.
  • Tyneside & Northumberland Mind: Suicide bereavement support. Call 0330 174 3174 (Monday–Friday 2pm–10 pm; weekends 12–8 pm).
  • Billy’s Lifeline: Gateshead-based charity supporting families and those bereaved by suicide. Call 0191 716 9555 or email [email protected]
  • PeerTalk (Gateshead): Weekly peer support group for adults with depression. Mondays 7am–8:30 pm at Bensham Grove Community Centre. Call or text 07719 562 617.
