Skills Bootcamp in Digital

Skills Bootcamp in Digital is a new set of digital training courses designed to help you to build sector specific skills and fast track to a guaranteed interview with a local digital employer at the end of the course.

The bootcamp will be delivered by a collective made up of Baltic Training, Education Partnership North East, Gateshead College, Newcastle College Group, New College Durham, Tyne Coast College and Sunderland Software City.

Interviews are being offered by a range of digital employers including Virgin Money, Mitsubishi Chemicals, Opencast Software, Accenture and Hedgehog Lab. 

Who are they for?

The courses are offered at intermediate and advanced level, so you will need to have a good level of digital skills already. See each course description for more information.

How much do they cost?

The training is free if you meet the following criteria:

  • Aged over 19 years of age
  • Working, recently unemployed within the last 12 months or looking for work e.g. coming back into the workforce after a career break
  • Resident in the UK and legally entitled to work in the UK

How long do they last?

Courses are delivered on a full and part time basis which means a course could last between two and 8 weeks. Face to face and virtual learning is available. We'll let you know more when you enquire.

I’m an employer, can I access the training?

Yes. The Skills Bootcamp in Digital is a great way to build sector specific skills in your workforce. Plus, you only need to pay a 30% contribution towards the cost of this training. This is fantastic value for money with courses ranging from only £575 to £725.

This course will give you the skills and knowledge to enable you to explore the range of concepts, approaches, tools and techniques that are applicable to BIM and the construction industry.

You will be introduced to AutoDesk REVIT which is currently the primarily software being used by the UK construction industry to facilitate the delivery of BIM projects. You will be able to use a range of tools, techniques and methods within REVIT to prepare a BIM model for a small residential house to a small-medium sized commercial building. You will develop 3D objects (wall, floor, roofs etc.) to create a full 3D BIM model which can form the basis to solve design problems as well as further simulation and analysis (e.g. costing a project).

This course will enhance your logical and creative thinking skills, look at problem solving skills, improve your ability to work independently and to take responsibility in future roles.

You will also develop key soft skills valued by employers such as resilience, listening, nonverbal communication, presentation, public speaking, verbal communication, visual communication, writing reports and proposals and writing skills.

This bootcamp is designed for learners who want to develop their knowledge and skills of Networking and Cyber security. Learners on this programme will learn skills in the following:

  • Network Infrastructures including: LANs, WANs, MAN’s, VLAN’s, Wireless technology, Network designing
  • Networking Hardware including: Switch Configuration, Router configuration, Server types and configuration
  • Protocols and Services including: IPV4 configuration, IPV6 configuration, OSI models, and TCP/IP Models, DNS, WINS network resolution, DHCP, NAT, firewall andVPN configuration

This is a good starting point for any learners who want to potentially progress into the following job roles (However is not limited to these industries):
