KickOff Programme

Think a career in design, engineering and construction might be for you? 

PlanBEE KickOff is your chance to get a foot on the ladder to a job and a career working on NUCASTLE, one of the most exciting construction projects in the city. 

You’ll get to develop your skills and qualifications, increase your chance of a permanent job and contribute to an iconic building that will make a difference to people in the place you live.

What is it? 

  • A six month employment contract. 

  • Your working week will be 25 hours plus 1-2 days a week at Gateshead College. 

  • You’ll be working onsite at NUCASTLE. Just 5 minutes walk from St James’ Park, this new building is being constructed for Newcastle United Foundation. 

  • It will create a state of the art facility for the local community providing coaching, education and mentoring opportunities to those who need them most. 

  • At the end of the six months you could move on to an apprenticeship. 

  • Earn yourself a set of industry recognised qualifications at Level 2/3. 

  • Experience the full construction process working in different roles from design and planning; site preparation; groundworks; setting out; structural engineering; modern methods of construction; building services and engineering; sustainable construction; final finishing trades. 

  • Professional mentoring. 

  • You’ll be working alongside the best employers in the industry including Ryder Architecture and builders, Robertson. 

Who is it for? 

If you are aged 18-24 and currently unemployed with an interest in working in the construction sector it’s for you. 

How do I Apply? 

Step 1

Step 2 

To secure a place on PlanBEE KickOff you will first complete a two week Preparation for Work programme as part of the interview process. 

Delivered by the team from Gateshead College and the Newcastle United and Falcons Foundations. You’ll take part in sessions on: 

  • Working on a construction site 

  • Working with colleagues as part of a team 

  • Health, safety and security 

  • Equality and diversity 

  • Application and interview techniques 

  • Problem solving 

You’ll come away with qualifications in: 

  • Employability Skills 

  • Occupational Studies in the workplace 

  • Health and Safety 

And you get your free CSCS Card worth around £50. This provides proof that you have the appropriate training and qualifications to work on a construction site. Most builders will look for this when hiring. 

Step 3

At the end of week two, and if you’ve successfully completed the course, you are guaranteed an interview for PlanBEE KickOff and an apprenticeship.
