Business students have joined forces with the Newcastle Eagles to ensure a memorable night for their fans.
For the Eagles recent home fixture against Bristol Flyers, our students were tasked with doing a takeover and creating innovative ideas to boost revenue and find new ways to entertain the crowd.
After weeks of meticulous planning, the students brought their ideas to life by selling their own custom-designed badges and completely selling out of their mystery bags of merchandise as fans couldn’t get enough.
From setting up the arena in the afternoon to supporting courtside and in different areas of the venue on game night, the students worked tirelessly alongside the Eagles staff to ensure fans had an unforgettable experience.
Rafeal Johnson one of the students on the project said: “This was one of my favourite work experiences I’ve been able to take part in, as it allowed me to gain hands-on experience in various business areas, from planning to execution—something that doesn’t always happen in a typical job role.”
Elaine Griffiths, Curriculum Leader at Gateshead College said, “Our students get so much out of this project every year and absolutely love taking part. It gave them the chance to undertake hands-on event management in a real-world environment, tackling all the unique challenges and pressures that come with it—and they really shone.
“We’re lucky to have businesses like the Eagles working with us to give our students valuable experiences outside the classroom. This not only enhances their qualifications but also helps them build essential skills that are useful for their careers and life in general.”
