We had another special visit as part of National Careers Week, as world-renowned producer and artist Trevor Horn and musician and music video director Lol Creme visited our Baltic Campus to share their experiences and advice with Performing Arts and Media students.
The visit followed a hugely successful day at the college organised by the Sunday for Sammy Trust, during which students were left starstruck when The 1975 frontman Matty Healy made a surprise appearance and delivered a major announcement.
Trevor Horn, whose groundbreaking production work has shaped artists from The Buggles and Frankie Goes to Hollywood to Seal and Yes, shared guidance on forging a career in the industry.
He was joined by fellow musical innovator Lol Creme, celebrated for his pioneering work with 10cc and the experimental duo Godley & Creme, who offered insights into the creative risks and technical curiosity that have defined his own artistic journey.
David Alexander, Principal of Gateshead College, said “It was brilliant to have Matty Healy from The 1975 in college, especially now that he’s become a patron of Sunday for Sammy. That really highlights his commitment to supporting young people, which clearly shone through during his time with our students.
“Now, our students will have had another exciting opportunity to learn from a pair of music industry icons, as Trevor Horn and Lol Creme visit us. We are delighted with our relationship with Sunday for Sammy as it gives our students experiences that just don’t come along every day.”
Trevor Horn and his band, including Lol Creme, performed at Newcastle’s O2 City Hall last December. Horn has previously supported Sunday for Sammy by performing in the last two arena shows, delighting audiences with classics such as Video Killed the Radio Star and Owner of a Lonely Heart.
“It’s always fantastic to see young talent in the North East. The region is bursting with creativity and energy, and I’m thrilled to be able to share some of my experiences and hopefully inspire the next generation of performers,” said Trevor.
These high-profile visits reflect Gateshead College’s growing reputation as a hub for creative talent and underline the commitment by Sunday for Sammy to nurture and support the next generation of North East performers.
