July 9, 2025

Gateshead Football Club has signed our student, Lucas Lowery on a one-year professional contract.

Lucas, who has been studying a Level 3 Sports Massage course whilst playing as part of the Gateshead FC Men’s Academy has had a standout 2024/25 season playing for the under-19 side under now first-team manager Alun Armstrong.

He made his first senior appearance for The Heed in the fourth round of the Isuzu FA Trophy in January 2024, coming on as 76th minute substitute in a home tie against Weston-Super-Mare on Gateshead’s road to winning the competition at Wembley Stadium four months later.

Commenting on his signing, Lucas said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to finally be here full-time.There’s no one I’d rather have as my coach than Alun (Armstrong) coach, he helped me quite a lot last year and gave me my confidence back. I’m really looking forward to the games coming up and showing him what I can do.”

Gateshead FC Academy is run in partnership with Gateshead College to develop young players into the professional game, with Lowery joining fellow former Gateshead FC Academy players Connor Pani and Oli Thompson in the club’s first team squad.

Tom Bradley, Assistant Principal at the college said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to see Lucas sign his first professional contract with Gateshead Football Club. He’s an exceptionally talented player, and this contract is a testament to his dedication and hard work. He truly deserves this opportunity.

“Lucas’s success also reflects the strength of our academy partnership with the club. It shows that our coaching and training are effectively preparing young talent to progress into the first team.”
