Gateshead College joins The Girl’s Network

July 24, 2025

We’ve joined The Girls’ Network mentoring programme to offer mentoring opportunities to our students, giving learners access to experienced mentors and support for their future goals.

The Girls’ Network supports young women aged 14–19 to build confidence, grow their aspirations, and explore career possibilities. After an info session and application process, our students attended a matching event where they met mentors from industries including law, journalism, construction and more.

Over the academic year, mentor pairs took part in ten sessions, offering real-life experiences like work placements, university visits, and networking events. Students gained tailored support with CVs and interview prep and also found a safe space to discuss challenges.

We wrapped the programme with a celebration event on July 3rd, where powerful stories were shared and friendships honoured.

“Being part of The Girls’ Network with Gateshead College has been such a great experience,” said Scarlet one of the students who took part. “The mentoring sessions have opened up opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise. I was connected with people and companies in the music industry, and I even got a gig through one of the mentors! Getting advice from someone more experienced has really helped me grow.

“If someone’s thinking about signing up, I’d say just do it. It might seem scary at first, but everyone I’ve met through this has been so lovely. Don’t let fear hold you back, just say yes.”

Thank you to Lauren Patterson, Nicola Taylor and all the mentors involved. Your impact will be felt for years to come. And to our mentees you’re invited to continue the journey through The Girls’ Network Ambassador Programme. We can’t wait to see what you do next.
