HE Health Learners recognised for outstanding inclusion work

March 26, 2026

Our HE Health learners, in partnership with their employer placement provider Edberts House, have been nominated for the Inclusion Quality Improvement Initiative at the Quality Professionals Awards.

This nomination celebrates what’s possible when meaningful collaboration takes place. Our students have put in an incredible amount of work, from designing and leading a community awareness campaign to helping establish a Dementia Café as part of the Compassionate Gateshead initiative.

Throughout the project, they’ve embraced a wide range of opportunities including dementia support, social prescribing sessions, work with Peace of Mind, and hands‑on community engagement across the local area.

Helen Bell, Community Participation and Accessibility Lead at Edberts House, said: “Working with the students has been amazing. It’s a new experience for me to work with people from this age group, and it’s been great to see their confidence grow throughout the project.

“They’ve embraced everything we’ve been doing, getting fully involved and stuck in. As time has gone on, they’ve become more independent and more comfortable engaging with people on their own. I hope this has given them a meaningful opportunity to see what health and care can look like within the community.”

A huge well done to our learners. They’ve shown outstanding commitment, leadership, compassion and creativity throughout this project, and this nomination reflects the real difference they’re making in our community. We’re incredibly proud of everything they’ve achieved.
