Gateshead FC sign academy goalkeeper Preston Leech

Gateshead FC have confirmed the signing of Gateshead FC Men’s Academy goalkeeper Preston Leech.

The 18-year-old, who studies Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development, puts pen to paper on Tyneside having first progressed through the ranks of the club’s junior academy system, before then appearing for Gateshead FC Men’s Academy, becoming the first player to progress from the club’s junior setup through to the first team.

Leech has trained regularly with the club’s first team since August 2023, and was included in the match day squad as a substitute for National League fixtures against York City and Yeovil Town in January 2025, before appearing for the first team in pre-season across July 2025.

Gateshead FC Academy operates in partnership with Gateshead College to develop young players into the professional game, with Leech joining fellow former Gateshead FC Academy players Callum Bone, Carter Milmore, Connor Pani, Lucas Lowery and Oli Thompson in the club’s first team squad.

Leech will immediately join Northern League Division One side Northallerton on dual-registration terms, making him available for selection for both clubs simultaneously.
