Following the success of last year’s Pride season, we’re teaming up once again with Out North East to bring the Summer of Pride Festival 2025 to Sunderland, South Tyneside, and Gateshead.
Last year, over 100,000 people joined in more than 65 free events, from film screenings and crafting sessions to dog shows and colour fun runs. This year promises more of the same as well as a host of new activities for everyone to come together and celebrate.
The celebration kicks off in Sunderland in June, moves to South Tyneside for July and then in August it’s Gateshead’s turn with a whole month of activities.
Pride in Gateshead will launch at the Metrocentre on 2nd August and throughout the month, there will be a variety of activities including a town centre takeover on 9th August, Pride Lawn Bowling Tournament on 10th August and the 5k Colour Run on 20th August.
The celebration will culminate in a live concert, Pride on Tyne at Baltic Square on Saturday 30th August with headline act superstar drag queen Danny Beard and 90’s icon Betty Boo ‘doing the do’.
David Alexander, Principal and Chief Executive of Gateshead College said: “At Gateshead College we look to create a safe and welcoming environment where everyone feels empowered and able to be their true selves. We are therefore thrilled to be able to partner with Pride in Gateshead for the second consecutive year as inclusivity and respect are at the heart of everything we do.
“This year’s Pride takes place in a very special year for us as it’s 80 years since we became Gateshead Technical College. While we proudly celebrate eighty years of history, what truly matters is the impact we make. If we can change even one life for the better, if we can help one person feel safe, valued, and part of our community, then there is no greater achievement and supporting Pride in Gateshead helps us do this.”
Peter Darrant, Chair of Out North East, expressed his gratitude for the support from all the local councils and sponsors.
“Organising three Prides on this scale is a massive undertaking and wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for our amazing sponsors and supporters,” he said.
“We look forward to delivering three memorable months of events with something for everyone.”
With a jam-packed schedule of events and community celebrations, Summer of Pride 2025 promises to be bigger, bolder, and more inclusive than ever. To find out more click here
