Skills Academy for Construction

Fancy a career or apprenticeship in construction, but not sure which trade to choose?

Come along to our taster session and under the expert guidance of our teaching team, try your hand at a range of trade skills:

  • Bricklaying – have a go at laying bricks
  • Carpentry and joinery – construct basic timber joints using a range of tools and materials
  • Plumbing – join copper pipe using soldering or compression and have a go at steel and copper pipe bending, cutting and threading steel pipe and pressure testing pipework
  • Electrical – have a go at stripping cables and making a cable extension connecting a 3 pin plug to 3 core flexible cable.
  • T Level in Architectural Design and Surveying - have a go at using Revit and find out about life as a T Level student.

If you are still unsure of what trade you would like to study, there is an option to attend three different taster sessions across different courses. This will give you an insight into what it is like to study on each course.

If you know which trade you would like to study then you’ll be able to spend the whole time in your chosen session.

“I was initially focussed on getting a better career, but my experience at college has given me loads more. The tutors all know what it’s like to be on the tools and put what you learn into context.”
