The T Level in Software Development (Digital production, design and development) is a 2-year courses developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares you for work.
This programme is a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience during an industry placement of at least 45 days. This provides the knowledge and experience needed to open the door into skilled employment, further study or a higher apprenticeship.
You will study concepts, theories and principles relevant to the skills needed in roles such as software development technician, web development, automated test development and mobile app development.
You will study programming concepts using Python and develop your computational thinking skills, business context how businesses use a range of digital skills, digital concepts and environments, agile project management, system security and investigate different testing methodologies.
The core content is assessed through an examination and a practical employer-set project.
The occupational specialism is assessed through a project that is created in conjunction with digital employers.
You could progress into a role as software engineer, web developer, data analyst, database administrator and progress to universities such as Northumbria, Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds, Liverpool and Teesside or BTEC HND at Gateshead College.
This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances.
