Sport and Physical Activity (Coaching and PE Teacher) Level 3


Sports coaching and PE Teaching are highly competitive areas.

We have taken advice from industry experts to ensure our courses are designed to give you the edge and set you up for a prosperous career.

In addition to the course we are going to fund a coaching course in your chosen sport awarded by the Governing Body.

We will also train you in first aid to give you that employment edge.

Furthermore, we will pay for you to achieve a DBS certificate so you can work with young people.

The first year focuses on the foundation knowledge to lead practical sessions for a range of ages and abilities with a focus on delivering sessions, fitness testing and planning, event organisation and practical sports

 In the second year, if you choose the Coaching strand you will cover the following topics:

  • Exercise, health and lifestyle
  • Fitness testing for sport and exercise
  • Fitness training and programming
  • Practical team sports
  • Sports Coaching
  • Preparing for a career in sport and physical activity
  • Current issues in sport
  • Leadership in Sport
  • Organising sports events

Assessment

Our Level 3 NCFE Sport courses are internally assessed through set coursework and assignments which will consist of written work, presentations, posters and practical observations.

Each unit is assessed as a Pass, Merit or Distinction and the mix of grades that you achieve for each unit will make up your final overall grade.

There are no examinations on this course.

Our teachers are ambitious, talented and passionate about making your experience at college the very best it can be.

They have up to date industry experience to share with you and the energy and enthusiasm to help you to get where you need to be.

You will undertake a minimum 30-hour placement each year you study at Gateshead College.

Your placement will be matched up with the skills, knowledge and behaviour gaps identified in your career plan which is compiled by you and your career coach at the start of your studies.

We have designed this course with two career pathways in mind Sports Coaching and PE Teaching.

We will support you as you either apply for university, start your own business or look for employment.

This course carries UCAS points for those of you wishing to carry on studying at university.

There are also apprenticeship programs you can join to support pathways into teaching and coaching.

Five GCSE grades at 4 or above, including Maths and English Language.

Whatever support you need, we’re here for you and will make sure you get the most out of your time at college.

There are no direct costs of attending this course.

You may wish to purchase text books to support your studies and we will advise of the best ones to get.

You can purchase a Gateshead College branded sports kit if you would like to.

The cost of the core bundle, including a tracksuit and t-shirt, will be refunded to you at the start of the first term if you join one of our Sports Academies.

Funding support is also available to help cover some of these costs, for those who meet eligibility criteria.
