This course is designed to give you an introduction to this highly innovative new industry and develop the skills you will need to have the employment edge in this spectacular new world.
Virtual and augmented reality are currently developing exponentially and are poised to radically impact on our society, from entertainment and the arts through to medical care. It’s an exciting time to study this subject at Gateshead College.
All students on the course are offered the opportunity to work with industry and take on commercial commission work.
You will use game engines, 3D tools and state of the art technologies to develop your own content and understand how to place it into virtual worlds using VR technology. You will also develop the skills you need to create augmented reality content – interacting with the virtual and real worlds simultaneously and in ways that have not existed until now.

The course also acts as a pathway into Higher Education with the Extended Diploma being equivalent to three A levels. You can achieve up to 168 UCAS points on completion of this course.
Assessment includes assignments, practical assessments, oral questions and written papers. Students produce a portfolio of evidence to support the assessment process.
Your work will be continuously assessed using assignments, case studies, and practical work.
