Academy for Sport
Uniformed Public Services includes the Armed Forces, Police, Fire, Prison and Paramedics. This course has been designed to help you build the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to progress successfully into a role in one of these services. This course will also be beneficial for anyone thinking of a career in Public Services such as Government, Probation, Court Services, Education and the NHS.
In year on you'll study:
- Fitness Testing
- Governement
- Leadership
- Citzenship
- Crime and it Effect on Society
- Land Based Outdoor Adventurous Activities
- Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise
- Current Media and Affairs
In year two, you'll cover:
- Major Incidents
- War and Conflict
- Law and Legal System
- Custodial Care
- Physical Preparation and Exercise
- Extended Research
- Discipline and Behaviour
- Command and Control
You will also the opportunity to undertake some more exciting trips and visits such as walking up a mountain, land navigated walk, indoor rock climbing, orienteering and a survival expedition. There will also be lots of specialised guest speakers from various areas of uniformed and non-uniformed public services.
Sport Academies
You will have the opportunity to join of one of our nine sport academies, where you will get:
• Up to 9 hours of professional training each week, access to
competitions and specialist sport academy coaches
• Free access to
physiotherapy assessments and treatment
• The opportunity to compete in
local, national and international competitions
• A personalised training
and development programme
Academy sports available are: Mens Football, Womens Football, Mens Rugby,
Womens Rugby, Netball, Basketball, Boxing, Athletics and Cricket and all
academies can cater from participation level right up to elite athletes. All
academy members will be given free Adidas kit worth £79. If you do not wish to
join one of our academies, you will undertake an employment related project
designed to develop further your employability skills.
You can choose to progress onto university to further your skills and knowledge, step into work or move onto an Apprenticeship. One of the biggest employment areas in our region, the services offer a variety of job roles and progression from entry level through to senior positions. A career in public services is exciting, fast-paced and interesting. Salaries start from around £15,000 and can rise to over £50,000 in senior positions.
Fast track to an apprenticeship.
If you're interested in an apprenticeship but you can’t find the right vacancy or you want to do some studying first, no problem. You can start on a vocational study programme like this one, then once you’re ready and a vacancy becomes available, we’ll help you transfer on to an apprenticeship.
This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19
years and over can qualify for free or reduced price course fees and there are
grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to
college, depending on your circumstances.
If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 years over, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee upfront in full and qualify for a 10% discount.
