How do you secure your life online and support your future employers to protect their infrastructure? In the coming year, hackers will launch increasingly sophisticated attacks on everything from critical infrastructure to medical devices.
This study programme will give you with the vital skills and knowledge to enable you to protect IT systems and make you a vital asset to any business. It will teach you the fundamentals of encryption, investigate how hackers penetrate systems and provide strong cyber-defence tactics. Starting with the basics of building computer systems to supporting and maintaining network technologies. You should have a basic knowledge of PC systems either through use of your computer at home or the subjects you have studied at school.
You can choose to specialise in the following pathways: Cyber Security and Infrastructure or Support Networking and Telecoms. You will complete the following commercial projects set by our employer partners:
Project 1 - Specify and Build a Computer System
Learn how to plan, monitor and implement a project using IT to help you to
specify and build a computer system for a client. By completing this project,
you could also sit the Cisco IT Essentials exam which has the potential to lead
into the professional CompTIA A+ certification.
Project 2 - Design and Build a Network Infrastructure
Working alongside a local employer, you will design and virtually build a
network infrastructure to suit the needs of a client. This will involve
consideration of a range of network system devices and network operating
systems. As the devices and operating systems need to communicate with each
other you will investigate a number of protocols and standards. Industry
standard technology will be used to implement your design
virtually.
Project 3 – Cyber Security
This project takes an in depth look at the cyber security issues organisations face in securing their network infrastructure. You will investigate different encryption techniques, firewall technologies and attempt to penetrate a network. In addition to your projects you will have the opportunity to complete:

- Microsoft MTA Security Fundamentals
- Microsoft MTA Operating Systems Fundamentals
- Microsoft MTA Server Administration Fundamentals
- Microsoft MTA Cloud Fundamentals Cisco Networking Academy Program for CCNA
- Cisco Networking Academy Introduction to Cyber Security course
Work Experience and Employer Networks
The possibilities with this scheme are endless, students have been given real-life projects to work on, visited the employers at work and been given opportunities to showcase their work. This scheme, along with our tutorial programme will help you become work ready as well as preparing you for the outside world with training on money management, help with job hunting, interviews and confidence building. We want you to be job ready when you leave us and able to put what you have learnt into practice in the workplace.
Relevant and high quality work experience placements, employer mentoring, commercial and vocational projects will help you to do this and are an important part of your study programme. Plus make an impression on an employer and who knows where that could lead.

You could progress into a role as IT Technical Support, Network technician, Network Administration, Network Security, Digital Forensics or Telecoms. Past students have gained employment with The Cairn Hotel Group, HMRC, Ponteland School, Gateshead College and ITPS and progressed to universities such as Northumbria, Sunderland, Leeds, Liverpool and Teesside.
