Level 2 Computer Science

This study programme is endorsed by Jon Stubbs and our Digital Technology Department are members of Dynamo North East and Digital Union.

This exciting new digital technology course will help you build up a range of creative and technical skills and knowledge to prepare you for one of our T Levels in Production, Design and Development, Support Services or Business Services or one of our Foundation Diplomas in Software Engineering, Emerging Technology or Cyber Security.

On the course, you'll cover:

Software Development and Mobile App Development

These projects will enhance your skills in developing programs using C#. You will be challenged to create your own mobile application within Unity to be deployed on android devices and make use of the online environment replit to make a bespoke software application.

Cyber Security Project

Every day around the world tens of millions of people read emails, watch videos, upload messages and communicate. They do this via thousands of different computer applications and devices. Applications like TikTok and Reddit, and games like Among Us and Apex Legends connect us and allow us to communicate and play together, online, in ways that would have been unimaginable to your grandparents. It’s easy to forget the advanced technology, scientific breakthroughs and brilliant engineering that underpins and supports these communications, but you will learn how it all connects together. How is information transferred from Gateshead to Australia and back again in the blink of an eye and how you can aspire to become a network engineer ensuring that the data that keeps the world running is kept flowing and out of the hands of criminals.

Big Data

After gaining insight into The Online World, you will develop the skills required to design and work with databases and spreadsheets for data analysis. You will have the opportunity to work on a large scale industry project in which you will develop a solution for a real problem and have the opportunity to interact with databases using SQL.

Work Experience

Relevant and high quality work experience opportunities, employer mentoring and commercial and vocational projects will help you to understand more about the world of work and form an important part of your study programme. Plus make an impression on an employer and who knows where that could lead.

You will have real-life projects to work on, visit employers in their workplace and have opportunities to showcase your work. We want you to be job ready when you leave us and able to put what you have learnt into practice in the workplace.
