The UK has one of the most diverse and vibrant creative landscapes. The UK Creative Industries currently employs 3.12 million people, generating £101.5 billion last year. This course perfectly prepares you to be a part of this excting sector.
This course is a practical course that will help you develop a broad range of creative skills ready for progression to Level 3, which is equivalent to three A Levels.
Validated by the world-renowned University of the Arts London (UAL), this course puts you in control of your own progress, choosing specialisms that suit you and allowing you to discover your potential and develop the confidence to work in the creative industries. UAL qualifications give you the freedom to explore your potential, take creative risks and find the path that challenges and excites you. You'll learn through experimentation and exploration by engaging with practical and theory sessions, projects, lectures, trips and visits.
The course includes a range of projects which mix professional skills with fun projects that will encourage you to develop a wide range of skills. For example, some of the projects we’ve done so far include creating the ‘Celebrating Difference’ project, which looks at what makes us all different, created ‘Frankenstein’s Laboratory’ as a 3D model movie set and created a visual story around an ‘Alien Invasion of Gateshead’.
In the final stage of the course you will choose your own art and design specialism which you will develop further in the personal project, helping you prepare for the next stages and develop a portfolio of work ready to progress to Level 3.
We are highly motivated and positive teaching team and believe that an open mind and a can do attitude is the best way for you to get the most out of your learning. We work closely with our students and often learn from each other to embrace creativity, share new ideas and celebrate at the end of year with an exhibition of the fantastic work produced.
Our highly skilled and enthusiastic teachers will help you build confidence and vocational skills and will motivate you along the way.
You'll have access to our professional art studios, photography studio and high spec digital suites. You will also have an opportunity to exhibit in our gallery spaces and you'll be encouraged to experiment in a wide range of mediums to find your own style.
We'll give you a suggested materials list when you enrol with an up-to-date price list. In general, this list is not that expensive, as we have sourced the best quality materials at the cheapest prices. We usually recommend the basics of a sketchpad, pencils and an eraser in the first few weeks. At Level 2, we initially work at A3 size, so we would recommend you get an art portfolio early in the course, to keep your work safe.
This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19
years and over can qualify for free or reduced price course fees and there are
grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to
college, depending on your circumstances.
If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 years over, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee upfront in full and qualify for a 10% discount.

“I wasn’t really confident with art before I started this course, but gradually I’ve learnt about the foundations and it’s really helped me figure out that art isn’t as complicated as I thought… it’s definitely doable with enough practice.“ Liam Armstrong
“Our students have gone on to greater things. Some have progress to university whilst others have become professional artists. It’s great to know that we helped them to develop their skills so they could achieve their goals.” Steve Lyon-Bowes, Curriculum Leader
