Skills Academy for Construction
This introductory course will help prepare you for work in the construction industry or give you the qualification needed to progress on to the Level 2 Bricklaying course to develop your knowledge and skills further.
This course will help you to build a foundation of skills to help you progress to our Level 2 qualification. You'll study the following units:
- Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
- Knowledge of technical information, quantities and communication with others
- Knowledge of construction technology
- Construct block walling
- Construct brick walling
- Construct cavity walling
- Setting out for basic masonry structures
- Mix construction materials
Throughout the course, we'll monitor your progress and provide constructive feedback to help you to improve where needed. We'll measure your skills and knowledge against nationally recognised standards specific to the construction area. We assess you in a range of ways including practical tasks and projects from which you'll create a portfolio of evidence, set online exams and written coursework and assignments.

You'll train at our purpose built Skills Academy for Construction which is kitted out with dedicated workshop areas for each trade.
This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19
years and over can qualify for free or reduced price course fees and there are
grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to
college, depending on your circumstances.
If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 years over, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee upfront in full and qualify for a 10% discount.
