Are you interested in becoming an artist, but don’t know where to start?
The Level 1 Art and Design programme is a practical course that will
introduce you to the diverse creative skills that artists use, to help you
progress onto Level 2.
Using a qualification written by the artists at the University of the Arts London (UAL), the Level 1 Art and Design course has a range of projects that cover a variety of skills and disciplines, including drawing and painting, model making, and digital work. We’ll help you develop your confidence and the skills that artists use to be creative.
The UK has one of the most diverse and vibrant creative landscapes. The UK Creative Industries currently employ 3.12 million people, generating £101.5 billion last year.
On the course, we will work through a range of projects that will include making models based on a theme, drawing skills, which you can develop according to your tastes - whether you like cartoons, graphic novels or general drawing, photography projects, using Photoshop etc.
On Level 1, we also have a great support team for those learners who require additional support – provided you are willing to learn, we’ll help you get there.
Towards the end of the course, you will choose your own Art and Design specialism, and create a personal project around this. This will help you prepare to progress onto level 2.
On Level 1, our student will work on either live commissions from outside clients, or receive work from within the college that helps them develop their professional skills. At the end of the year, we have a full exhibition, in which the students show their work and have the opportunity to discuss this with professionals who are visiting the exhibition.
Students on the Level 1 Art and Design still have the opportunity to work with our professional partners, such as the Baltic and the Law Courts. We often have opportunities for Level 1 students to work with the Level 2 students when we have professional artists come in, so they can gain the same skills.
This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free or reduced price course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances.
If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 years over, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee upfront in full and qualify for a 10% discount.
