Introduction to Hair and Beauty

On this course, you'll work in our professional salon, Botanica, where you can build a solid set of skills. You'll also work in a salon placement one day per week to develop your customer service skills and demonstrate your creativity. This will truly prepare you to progress into employment or further study. The course covers a wide range of beauty and hairdressing skills which will help you on your way to becoming a qualified practitioner in the future. You will follow an innovative programme of challenging and exciting practical skills and knowledge based theory relating to multiple aspects of hairdressing and beauty therapy.
Modules will include:
- Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
- Presenting a professional image in a salon
- Shampoo and conditioning
- Skin care
- Styling women’s hair
- Plaiting and twisting hair
- Basic make-up application
- Providing basic manicure
- Colour hair using temporary colour
- Create a hair and beauty image
- Follow health and safety in the salon
- Salon reception duties
We'll assess your progress as you go through the programme, giving you feedback to help you to improve where needed. Assessments will be carried out in our training salon, Botanica and you'll be marked against the standards of the national awarding body.
You will carry these assessments out on salon clients or we may ask you to source your own clients. There will be some work for you to do outside of college hours, at home.
This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free or reduced price course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances.
If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 years over, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee upfront in full and qualify for a 10% discount.
