Be part of our professional salon team and train in our industry standard salon, Botanica. With a focus on hairdressing techniques, you’ll develop skills in colour enhancement, plaiting and twisting, cutting techniques, creative styling and the art of dressing. You’ll undertake a work experience placement one day a week to help develop your communication and creativity skills and have the chance to enter national competitions. On completion you can progress to our Level 2 in Hairdressing.
You'll study the following modules:
- Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
- Presenting a professional image in a salon
- Shampoo and conditioning
- Styling women’s hair
- Plaiting and twisting hair
- Colouring hair using temporary colour
- Creating a hair and beauty image
- Following health and safety in the salon
- Salon reception duties.
feedback to help you to improve where needed. Assessments will be carried out in our training salon, Botanica and you'll be marked against the standards of the awarding body. We may ask you to complete work at home and for some assessments you may need to source your own clients.
Our network of professional partners includes Eve Taylor London, Milkshake, Steiner Skincare and Spa, City Retreat, Hilton Newcastle Gateshead and The Arch. Working with these professionals we're able to give you up to date product knowledge, ensure our curriculum is relevant and provide brilliant work experience opportunities.
All practical sessions will be taught in our industry standard salon, Botanica which houses two hairdressing salons for paying clients.
You'll wear a salon uniform and work with a professional hairdressers kit.
This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19
years and over can qualify for free or reduced price course fees and there are
grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to
college, depending on your circumstances.
If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 years over, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee upfront in full and qualify for a 10% discount.
