Assessment

There are three exams – one non-calculator paper and two calculator papers. Each paper is 1.5 hours long and carries 80 marks.

These courses are free to learners who do not yet hold an A*-C/9-4 grade in this subject.

You’ll need to buy a geometry kit and a scientific calculator. We recommend a Casio fx-85GT X.

This course is free if you don’t already have this qualification.

There are no formal entry requirements, only a positive attitude and a determination to work hard, though you may be advised to study a stepping-stone qualification first if your current skills do not meet the demands of the course.

You will be asked to sit an initial assessment so that we can identify the  level you are currently working at, and over the first six weeks of the course, your teacher will help diagnose any areas for development.

Hossein Moussavi is our highly experienced adult GCSE maths teacher. He is incredibly supportive and will help you achieve this qualification.

“I didn’t enjoy maths when I was at school and had left it until now to try and rectify the issue and prove to both myself that if at first you don’t  succeed, you should definitely keep trying. The teacher made the entire process really enjoyable and clear.”

“If I was struggling, the teacher would go above and beyond to help me to understand. The teacher was welcoming and patient throughout the sessions and made sure everyone was involved and understood.  I could tell that every online Skype session was efficiently planned and was just as informative as a lesson inside of College.”

“I just wanted to take some time to express how much I enjoyed being in class this year. The teacher always made extra sure that I understood the material. Being able to count on them for extra help and clarification was really special to me and shows me how much the teacher cares about the happiness and success of his students.”

“Whilst I always prefer a classroom setting, the online sessions allowed us to complete all of the subjects we needed. The presentations were clear and easy to follow and theteacher gave us plenty of examples and explanations to help our understanding. There were opportunities for interaction, and as always, fantastic help, encouragement and support.”
