Skills Academy - Construction
If you're interested in working in construction but are not sure which trade to choose, this course is the perfect option. You'll develop the practical skills valued by employers and get a taste of a variety of trades.
You'll study:
- An introduction to health and safety
- A range of trade skills including carpentry and joinery, brickwork, and plumbing installation
We’ll also help you to apply for a Construction Skills Certification (CSCS) Card, which is a requirement for all workers and trainees no matter your job role before you go on site.
A highly motivated team of industry specialist with a wealth of knowledge across a wide range of vocational trades will form your teaching team.
Our aim is to work with young people to support them to develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours to succeed in the construction environment.
If you have the right attitude and commitment we can support you to become who you want to be.
Our industry partners include Tolent, Sir Robert McAlpine, Ryder and Bellway, ensuring that our course content is always up to date and relevant to today's construction industry and that our work placement opportunities are with some of the best employers in our region.
Throughout the course, we'll monitor your progress and provide constructive feedback to help you to improve where needed. We'll measure your skills and knowledge against nationally recognised standards specific to the construction area. We assess you in a range of ways including practical tasks and testing.
There are no formal entry requirements. You'll have an informal interview with a member of the teaching team.
This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances.
