This level 1 course has been specifically designed for those who are interested in pursuing a career in or developing their existing skills in the welding. The content and teaching methods have been prepared based on feedback from the employers we work with, meaning they are relevant to today's industry.
You'll learn through a blend of theory and practical based sessions with a large proportion of the delivery taking place in our dedicated welding workshops, allowing you to develop your practical skills.
The course includes:
• Full health and safety induction
• Theory workshops on health & safety and welding processes and techniques
Throughout the programme, you will be producing work that will be assessed against the City & Guilds criteria. The final assessment will consist of work produced including unit-based knowledge and practical assessments. We will support you throughout the programme with regular assessment tasks and feedback in preparation for these.
The practical assessments are:
Practical assessment 1 - Produce beads on plate in a PA flat position
Practical assessment 2 - Produce a lap fillet weld in a PB horizontal/vertical position
Practical assessment 3 - Produce a tee fillet weld in the PA flat position
Practical assessment 4 - Produce a tee fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position
Practical assessment 5 - Produce a corner weld in the PA flat position
Knowledge assessment 6 – Understand and explain the process and health & safety requirements for Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding.
We have 16 fully equipped welding stations in our dedicated welding workshops at our Skills Academy for Automotive, Engineering, Manufacturing and Logistics.
You will need to provide your own safety footwear, fire retardant overalls and welding cap for all welding courses.
