This course provides the skills and underpinning knowledge you need to become recognised as a bricklayer. You will gain practical experience in our fully equipped professional workshops. As well as bricklaying, you will learn about arches and openings, various types of walling and all aspects of building.

Areas you will study will include:

  • Storage of materials and equipment.
  • Erect and dismantle basic working platforms.
  • Work efficiently.
  • Brick and block work walling.
  • Set out basic buildings.
  • Construct walling detail.
  • Signalling for the movement of loads.

Assessment

Students will be assessed against awarding body assessment criteria through a range of both theory and practical assessments.

Students will be required to pass all assessments to complete the qualification.

You’ll train at our purpose built Skills Academy for Construction which is kitted out with dedicated workshop areas for each trade.

This qualification will help you to build the industry skills, knowledge and behaviours you need to start your career in bricklaying.

After the course, you can progress to our Level 2 apprenticeship, if a vacancy is available.

You must have a full Level 1 qualification in a relevant area.

All students will be required to carry out work experience to allow them to get an understanding of what it is like to work in the construction environment.

Once you’ve passed the HS&E test you’ll be able to gain work experience with local companies to practice the skills you learn at college in the real world. Gaining this experience is ideal for moving onto an apprenticeship or full-time employment.
