Step into the world of digital filmmaking with our Virtual Production Level 5 Bootcamp.

Gain real-world experience with Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) and develop the skills needed for a successful career in virtual production, from building immersive environments to mastering motion capture.

The Virtual Production Level 5 Bootcamp is designed for aspiring professionals who want to master the future of games and media production. With the industry-standard Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) at the core of this training, you’ll learn to create and manipulate immersive digital environments, gaining hands-on experience that prepares you for real-world production scenarios.

This comprehensive program offers an opportunity to use a state-of-the-art Virtual Production stage, where you will engage in practical projects from shoot prep and setup to live production days.

You’ll explore a wide range of skills that are all essential for developing realistic digital world, including:

  • material blueprints
  • lighting tools
  • motion capture
  • performance capture

By the end of the course, you will have practical knowledge in virtual filmmaking, positioning you for roles such as Virtual Production Technician, Unreal Engine Specialist, or VP Artist. This bootcamp not only equips you with technical skills but also emphasises the creative and collaborative aspects of virtual production.

Over the course of this bootcamp you will develop the following skills:

  • Introduction to Virtual Production and UE5: Learn the fundamentals of virtual production and get hands-on with Unreal Engine 5.
  • Project Setup and Source Control: Master the basics of project management, version control, and collaborative workflows in virtual production.
  • World Building in Multi-User Sessions: Collaborate with peers to design and build detailed digital environments in real-time.
  • Material Blueprints (BPs) and Shaders: Develop custom material blueprints and shaders to enhance the visual quality of your digital sets.
  • Lighting Tools and Post-Processing: Learn advanced lighting techniques and post-processing effects for creating immersive, photorealistic scenes.
  • Motion Capture and Live Link: Gain hands-on experience with motion capture technology and Live Link for seamless integration of real actors into digital environments.
  • Virtual Production Stage Tour and Shoot Prep: Visit a Virtual Production stage to observe the setup and preparation process for real-world projects.

Assessment

You will complete a final project where you’ll use all the skills learned to create a fully immersive virtual production scene from concept to completion.

As our bootcamps are delivered via a blended approach we ensure that learners have access to industry standard software.

In addition, for in person sessions, our teaching rooms provide a realistic, practical learning environment.

This course is free (fully funded) for independent learners (those not taking the course through their employer).

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be aged 19 or older
  • Live in the North East Combined Authority area (Gateshead, Sunderland, South Tyneside, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland or County Durham)
  • Have the right to work in the UK and meets residency requirements

Employers using bootcamps to upskill their workforce will be required to pay a contribution (10% for SME and 30% for large employers).

If you are an independent learner, you will be guaranteed a job interview in industry

This bootcamp will prepare you for a career as a Unreal Engine Specialist, Virtual Production Technician or a Virtual Production Artist, as well as other more general Games related roles.

All applicants are invited to interview and take part in an initial assessment process to check your suitability for this bootcamp.

In addition, all applicants are required to have the following:
GCSE English and Maths at grade 9-4 (A*-C), or equivalent.
