This course is an introduction for those interested in exploring careers in health and social care.

It’s designed to guide you through the basics of this rewarding field, making it ideal for students who may need extra time and support with their learning.

Alongside health and social care topics, this course also emphasises the importance of achieving your maths and English qualifications, ensuring you have the essential skills needed for your future career.

Throughout this course, you’ll build a solid foundation in key areas such as promoting health and understanding safeguarding and duty of care.

You’ll also receive dedicated Personal Social Development sessions which will help you to develop effective communication and social skills.

We understand that everyone learns at their own pace, so our experienced and supportive tutors will be with you every step of the way, providing personalised support to help you succeed.

On this course, you’ll study the following units:

  • Human Lifespan Development – You’ll learn about the developmental process from birth to death and how the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development interlink and change through the life process.
  • Care Values – This unit has practical elements and will encourage you to consider the importance of providing individualised care and empowering service users.
  • Social Influences – You’ll be introduced to sociology and the impact which society has on care and support.
  • Promoting Health – This unit develops your understanding of how we promote health and public health. You’ll learn about the history of public health and how the NHS was founded as well as investigating health campaigns.

Assessment

We’ll track your progress as you move through the course, giving you feedback to help you to improve and build your confidence.

We’ll assess how well you’re doing through a combination of exams and assignments, with support all along the way.

Your teaching team are passionate and enthusiatic, keen to help you learn and will support you from the start to the end of the course and beyond.

You’ll also have the chance to gain hands-on experience through carefully selected work placements, giving you a real taste of what it’s like to work in the health and social care sector.

You’ll be encouraged to participate in volunteering opportunities, which will not only build your confidence but also enhance your understanding of the sector.

After the course, you could go out into work or progress to an apprenticeship.

If you have achieved a merit or distinction grade you may be able to progress onto the Level 3 course.

Three GCSE grades at 2-9, including one 3 grade in English, maths or science.

Whether you’re looking to pursue further education in health and social care or aim to step straight into employment, this course will equip you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to take the next steps toward your career goals.

With a focus on both academic achievement and practical experience.

A DBS check will be needed before you can go on work placement which we will organise for you.

You’ll need to buy a tunic for work placement which will cost around £22.50. We can source this for you through our preferred suppliers and funding support is available for those who meet eligibility criteria.
