This nationally recognised qualification covers industrial, commercial and domestic electrical installations and is ideal if you are interested in a career as an electrician.
You will spend a large amount of time in a simulated working environment learning all aspects of electrical installation works.
This qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the electrotechnical sector.
You will cover compulsory aspects such as:
Centres and providers work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training.
Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided by the employers.
This practically based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the electrotechnical industry or specialist further study.
Students will need level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations.
Maths and English GCSE passes at grade 4 or above, or Functional Skills Maths and English at Level 2.
Ideally you will have completed a Level 2 electrical course or have undertaken a technical subject at school.
Use of basic tools and some hand skills would be useful.
A place is not guaranteed with the above achievements, consideration is given to previous attendance/behaviours and the number of attempts to pass the L2 units.
Candidates must successfully complete all the mandatory assessment components.
In addition, you must achieve the mandatory employer involvement requirement (Level 3 Employer involvement 830) for this qualification before they can be awarded a qualification grade
Our Skills Academy for construction is a purpose-built centre with dedicated workshop space for each Construction trade.
Learners will be required to provide suitable clothing for workshops and steel toe-capped boots.
Having a current standard copy of IET wiring regs and onsite guide would be an advantage, along with basic stationary and scientific calculator.

This technical qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and practical skills needed for working in the electrotechnical industry, which will prepare you to enter an electrotechnical apprenticeship programme or work as an electrician’s mate working towards completion of a NVQ and the AM2 test.
Then the learner will be recognised by the industry as competent as an installation or maintenance electrician.

This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free or reduced price course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances.
If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 years over, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee upfront in full and qualify for a 10% discount.
