Are you a driven, ambitious creative ready to take your first real steps into the vibrant North East creative scene? Concept to Creation is a brand-new, one-year course designed to turn your passion into professional practice.

Step into the heart of the action by joining our dynamic Creative Enterprise programme — a unique opportunity to collaborate with local creative employers, sharpen your entrepreneurial mindset, and grow your network alongside a like-minded community of creatives.

As part of our in-house CoLab Agency, you’ll work on live briefs from real clients, taking exciting projects from initial concept all the way through to final delivery. Whether you’re planning an event, crafting a campaign, or producing content, you’ll gain invaluable hands-on experience every step of the way.

By the end of the course, you’ll have built a portfolio of real projects, grown a powerful professional network, and developed the confidence and skills to step boldly into your creative career.

This one-year diploma is structured around three key units:

  • The Creative Entrepreneur – Understand the role of an entrepreneur in the creative industries and learn how to turn ideas into opportunities.
  • The Creative Practitioner – Develop and refine your creative skills, honing your craft and professional identity.
  • The Creative Enterprise – Plan, execute, and showcase a creative enterprise project, integrating everything you’ve learned.

Assessment

There are no formal exams. Throughout the course, you will be assessed through a range of modes such as:

  • Business Research Model
  • Portfolio
  • Reflective Journal
  • Business Plan and Pitch

After successfully completing this course, you could progress onto:

  • Employment – Step into roles within the creative industries.
  • Self-Employment – Launch your own creative business or work as a freelancer.
  • Higher Education – Progress to university or specialist creative courses.

This diploma is ideal for creative individuals looking to build a successful freelance caree, start a business, or gain practical industry experience in a supportive learning environment.

A Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject.

GCSEs at grade 4/C or above in English and Maths

A strong portfolio may be accepted instead of formal qualifications.

Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances. If you don’t qualify for funding help and have to pay for course, you could pay a 25% deposit and four consecutive monthly standing order payments for the balance. If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 or over you can pay the fee in full upfront and receive a 10% discount. Or you can apply for an Adult Advanced Learner Loan, a low interest loan with no upfront fees that you pay back in installments once you’re earning.
