The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care is a two years, full-time course awarded by Pearson. Equivalent to three A Levels, it is designed for learners aged 16 and over who are interested in pursuing a career in the health and social care sector.

The course offers a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, equipping you with the knowledge and skills to progress to university or employment in roles such as nursing, social work, occupational therapy, or other related professions.

You will be assessed through a combination of external and internal methods. External assessments will include written examinations and supervised research tasks. Internal assessments will involve coursework, presentations, role plays, case studies, and practical demonstrations.

As part of the diploma, you will be required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of work experience in appropriate health and social care settings. These placements may take place in environments such as hospitals, care homes, GP surgeries, day-care centres, children’s centres, or special educational needs schools. This practical experience will be essential in helping you develop the skills and confidence needed to work effectively in the sector.
