Are you looking for a professional career in the health sector? Are you already employed in the health sector and eager for professional promotion? Then our HTQ course in Healthcare Professions is ideal for you.

Our Higher Technical Qualifications or HTQs are co-designed with employers to address an increasing need for high quality professional and technical education pathways. So, you not only get the knowledge you need to apply, or progress, but also the skills employers want in only 12 months.

The course aims to:

  • Give you the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills that algin with the latest professional standards.
  • Offer a range of learning opportunities such as group projects, supervised placements and the creation of a practice-basede development portfolio.
  • Provide extensive work-based learning, allowing you to put your theoretical knowledge into working practice.

The Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) – Level 4 HNC in Healthcare Professions Support for England is equivalent to one year of a degree.

Modules include:

  • Demonstrating Professional Principles and Values in Health and Social Care Practice [30 credits]
  • Law, Policy and Ethical Practice [15 credits]
  • Fundamentals of Evidence-based Practice [15 credits]
  • Principles of Health Education [15 credits]
  • Effective Healthcare Practice Using Maths [15 credits]
  • Applied Anatomy and Physiology [15 credits]
  • Supporting the Individual Journey through Integrated Health and Social Care [15 credits]

Required Entry Qualifications

You will be required to demonstrate a level 3 qualification which evidences 56 UCAS points.

You will also be asked to demonstrate GCSE or equivalent qualifications in maths and English grade 4 or above.

Related work experience

IELTS 5.5 (reading and writing must be at 5.5) if English is not your first language.

Based on extensive vocational experience relevant to the health and social care sector, then Functional Skills Level 2 may be sufficient.

You would need to work towards achieving GCSE maths and English if you wish to progress to a Level 6 Top Up programme, where relevant.

A clear DBS

You will engage in a range of assessments over the two academic years including:

  • Essays
  • Reports
  • Portfolio
  • Multiple Choice Questionnaires
  • Reflections.

The assessments are an opportunity for you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge you have developed on the course.

You will be required to complete work experience within the healthcare sector. The requirements are 225 hours for the Level 4 HTQ.

If you are already employed in the healthcare sector in a relevant role then you may not need to undertake additional placement.

If you choose to progress to the Level 5 HND then you would need to complete an additional 225 hours on placement.

Students on the course make use of facilities at the Baltic campus including our libraries, classrooms and our clinical room.

You will also have access to our Careers and Guidance team to help you when applying for job roles and preparing for interviews.

The Healthcare Professions Support for England course is recognised by employers regionally and nationally, as they include both knowledge and skills and are underpinned by occupational standards, professional values and principles.

The Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) – Level 4 HNC in Healthcare Professions Support for England provides you with a higher-level qualification to work as a Level 4 Senior Support Worker.

Senior support workers can work  in a range of settings such as a radiographic assistant in a hospital or mental health support.

If you wish to continue your HE studies you can progress to the Level 5 HND in Healthcare Professions Support for England.

On completion of the HND which is equivalent to a Foundation Degree, you can apply to study a Level 6 BSC in Professional Practice at the University of Sunderland.

The fee for this course is £5,995.
