If you’re thinking about starting a career in construction, or want to develop your current career in the built environment sector, then our HTQ in Construction and the Built Environment course is ideal for you.

Our Higher Technical Qualifications or HTQs are co-designed with employers to meet the evolving demands of needed to succeed in industry. So, you not only get the knowledge you need to apply, or progress, but also the practical expertise employers want in only 12 months.

This course aims to:

  • Strengthen your understanding of the key principles in your specialist pathway (management) and equip you with the ability to apply the principles.
  • Enhance your skills in evaluating the appropriateness of different problem-solving approaches.
  • Prepare you to perform effectively in their chosen field.
  • Equip you with the qualities needed for employment in roles that require personal responsibility and decision-making.

On successful completion, you can develop your career in the Construction sector through:

  • Entering employment
  • Continuing existing employment
  • Committing to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Progressing to university
  • Progressing to a higher apprenticeship scheme, in conjunction with progression to a university degree course

Modules include:

  • UNIT 22: Group project
  • UNIT 23: Contracts and management
  • UNIT 24: Project management
  • UNIT 25: Management for complex buildings 

Three further optional units will be studied to complete the qualification and ensure a wide range of relevant technical knowledge is gained, leading to possible career progression or further academic study.

Some units are subject to change depending on industry requirements.

Required Entry Qualifications

A Level 4 qualification in Construction (RQF).

Related work experience.

Assessment consists of a mixture of individual assignments and tests for each unit.

The programme is delivered by experienced practitioners who will be using a wide range of strategies to facilitate your learning.

You will gain a wide range of sector knowledge tied to practical skills gained in research, self study, directed study and workplace scenarios.

Our Skills Academy for Construction is a purpose built centre with dedicated space for each construction profession.

The classrooms have the most up to date software, such as REVET and 3D scanners.

The fee for this course is £4,500.

The fee shown is the fee you will pay per year of study. For example, if the course lasts for one year, this is the full fee you will pay. If the course lasts for one or more years, this is the fee you’ll pay per year of study.

There may be additional costs for equipment, uniforms or study resources which we’ll let you know about at your course interview.
