If you’re interested in working in construction but are not sure which trade to choose, this course is the perfect option.

You’ll develop the practical skills valued by employers and get a taste of a variety of trades.

You’ll study:

  • An introduction to health and safety
  • A range of trade skills including carpentry and joinery, brickwork, and plumbing studies

We’ll also help you to apply for a Construction Skills Certification (CSCS) Card, which is a requirement for all workers and trainees no matter your job role before you go on site. 

 

Required Entry Qualifications

There are no formal entry requirements.

You’ll have an informal interview with a member of the teaching team.

A highly motivated team of industry specialist with a wealth of knowledge across a wide range of vocational trades will form your teaching team.

Our aim is to work with young people to support them to develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours to succeed in the construction environment.

If you have the right attitude and commitment we can support you to become who you want to be.

Our industry partners include Tolent, Sir Robert McAlpine, Ryder and Bellway, ensuring that our course content is always up to date and relevant to today’s construction industry and that our work placement opportunities are with some of the best employers in our region.

Throughout the course, we’ll monitor your progress and provide constructive feedback to help you to improve where needed.

We’ll measure your skills and knowledge against nationally recognised standards specific to the construction area.

We assess you in a range of ways including practical tasks and testing.

You’ll train at our purpose built Skills Academy for Construction which is kitted out with dedicated workshop areas for each trade.

Students will be required to purchase PPE.

Whatever support you need, we’re here for you and will make sure you get the most out of your time at college.

We have expert teams in place to look after every single one of our students.

This qualification will help you to build the introductory skills, knowledge and behaviours you need to start your career in construction.

After the course, you can progress to our Level 2 courses or onto a Level 2 apprenticeship, if a vacancy is available.

Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.

Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

Design: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
