The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Applied Science is a hands-on, career-focused qualification designed for students who are passionate about science and want to explore how it’s used in the real world.

50% of assessment is through external exams.
50% is assessed internally, including an assessment of your practical laboratory skills.

Your study programme will be delivered by teachers who are vocationally competent and passionate about the subject area. Our teachers have previously worked in industries including electrical engineering, healthcare science, pathology and Alzheimer’s research.
All teachers maintain their industry knowledge and skills by returning to practice at least once per year.

Students on the BTEC Applied Science Level 3 Diploma will make use of facilities at the Baltic campus including our libraries, clinical practice rooms and classroom environments.
We have three brand new laboratories kitted out with the latest scientific equipment which you will use on a regular basis.
You will have access to our Careers and Guidance team to help you with your university application and to help you prepare for interviews and assessments.
You will also have access to our student wellbeing team who can support you with your mental health and wellbeing.

If you are a young person who is not currently studying a traditional GCSE programme, we will consider alternative qualifications such as functional skills and vocational qualifications like level 2 applied science.
This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free or reduced price course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances.
If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 years over, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee upfront in full and qualify for a 10% discount.
