Working as part of our professional team in our hairdressing salon, Botanica, you’ll have the opportunity to perfect your customer care skills and understand what it means to work as part of an effective team, dealing with clients.

You’ll have the opportunity to build up your own portfolio of work and enter regional and national competitions.

You’ll spend a year with us developing the knowledge and skills required in today’s fast paced, creative hairdressing industry.

You’ll study the following modules:

  • Working with colleagues in hairdressing related industries
  • Monitoring and maintaining health and safety practice in the salon
  • Promoting and sell products and services to clients
  • Cutting techniques
  • Advanced colour correction
  • Creative long hair and bridal styling
  • Creative hair extensions

Assessment

Throughout the course, we’ll monitor your progress and provide constructive feedback to help you to improve where needed.

We’ll measure your skills and knowledge against nationally recognised standards specific to the hairdressing sector and all practical assessments will take place in our salon Botanica on paying clients or fellow students.

All practical sessions are taught in our industry standard salon, Botanica, complete with two hairdressing salons, a beauty suite and a nail bar.

You’ll wear a salon uniform during your training and use a professional hairdressers kit.

  • We’re a part of the Green Salon Collective, a company that offer Zero-to-Landfill Salon Recycling Solutions for Hairdressers.
  • Our hair, foils and metal tubes are recycled.
  • We use eco-heads, shower heads that reduce water use by around 70%.
  • Our beauty supplier is Eve Taylor and for every product we buy, they plant a tree.
  • We don’t print our learning portfolios, they’re all online.
  • We use the Wella Hero platform, which helps the students gain knowledge on all aspects education in the hair industry including sustainable salon operations.

After the course, you could progress directly into the hairdressing industry in a salon, hotel or spa.

Fully trained hairdressers can earn up to £20,000 a year and at the top of the profession, hairdressers can earn more than £30,000.

This industry also lends itself perfectly to becoming your own boss.

If you choose to stay in education, you can progress onto a Level 4 qualification or Foundation Degree in Salon Management qualification. You could also consider training to become a teacher.

Level 2 Hairdressing.

You will also need to pass a skills test and have an informal interview with our teaching team.

There will be a cost for uniform and hairdressing kit. We’ll let you know more about this during the application process and we’ll help you to source these items from our preferred suppliers, ensuring you get the best value for money.

This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.

Most people aged 19 years and over can qualify for free course fees and there are grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to college, depending on your circumstances.
