League Two side Bolton Wanderers have signed former Gateshead College student Tom White on a season-long loan from Blackburn.

The 23-year-old midfielder is reunited with boss Ian Evatt at Bolton, having featured under the manager as he guided Barrow to promotion as National League champions last season.

White made 19 appearances to help the Cumbrian club return to the English Football League.

"He is a great acquisition to our squad," said Evatt.

"While Tom might not be a name known to our fans, I know him very well as I had him last year at Barrow. He is the complete midfield player who can run, pass, dribble and break up play."

White joined Gateshead FC as a Gateshead College scholarship player in 2015 and went on to play for the club, putting in more than 40 appearances during 2018 season before moving to Blackburn Rovers.

He also played twice in 2018-19 for England C - a side made up of non-league players - featuring against Wales and Estonia.

Tom said: “Studying at Gateshead College and playing for Gateshead FC as part of the scholarship programme was the best possible start to my playing career.

“I spent four years at Gateshead and it’s been such an amazing journey with a really supportive team.

“I’ve always been hungry, worked hard, pushed myself and it’s paying dividends now.”
